Managing Attorney: Ms. Simone Morris-Ramlall, LLB

Ms. Morris Ramlall graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1998 from the University of Guyana, receiving the Pro-Chancellor’s Medal for Best Graduating Law Student. She obtained her Legal Education Certificate from Hugh Wooding Law School (where she was awarded the Government of Guyana Prize for the best performance by a Guyanese student) and was called to the Guyana Bar in October 2000.

A State Counsel attached to the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions for 4 years before moving to the Chambers of the Attorney General for several months, Ms. Morris-Ramlall then went into private practice prior to joining the Clinic in August 2009. Between 2000 and 2006, she also lectured in Public International Law and Commercial Law at the University of Guyana.

Ms. Morris-Ramlall brings a to the Clinic a very welcome depth of knowledge and experience in both civil and criminal law.

Ms. Sasha Roberts, LLB, Attorney-at-Law

Ms. Roberts graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 2007 from the University of Guyana. She obtained her Legal Education Certificate from Hugh Wooding Law School and was called to the Guyana Bar in October 2009.

In the summer of 2008, Ms. Roberts did her internship at the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

Ms. Roberts is based at the Clinic’s New Amsterdam office and also provides services at the Fort Wellington office.

Ms. Valensia T. Yansen, LLB, Attorney-at-Law

Ms. Yansen graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 2011 from the University of Guyana (having obtained a Bsc in International Relations in 2008 and a Diploma in Social Security and Management in 2004 from the same institution and also being a certified orthopaedic technician), attended Hugh Wooding Law School 2011-13 and was called to the Guyana Bar in October 2013.

Ms. Yansen is based at the Anna Regina office and has previous legal aid experience, having worked for 10 weeks at the Hugh Wooding Legal Aid Clinic in 2012.

Ms. Shellon Boyce, LLB, Attorney-at-Law

Ms. Boyce, having previously obtained a BA in History from the University of Guyana in 2005, graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree from the same university in 2009, attended Hugh Wooding Law School 2009-2011 and was called to the Guyana Bar in November 2011.

She then worked with the chambers of Hanoman, Jackson & Associates until joining the Clinic in November 2014.

Ms. Boyce, who has previous legal aid experience, having worked at the Hugh Wooding Legal Aid Clinic between October 2010 and April 2011, is based at the Georgetown office.

Ms. Shameka Taitt, LLB, Attorney-at-Law

Ms. Taitt obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Guyana in 2008 and after a period of teaching at a Georgetown secondary school, attended Hugh Wooding Law School 2012-2014 and was called to the Guyana Bar in November 2014.

Prior to joining the Clinic in February 2016, Ms. Taitt was Legal Officer at the Guyana Council on Public Policy.

Ms. Collette Marks, LLB, Attorney-at-Law

Ms. Marks obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Guyana in 2014, attended Hugh Wooding Law School 2014-2016 and was called to the Guyana Bar in October 2016.
