Managing Attorney: Ms. Shellon Boyce, LLB

Ms. Boyce, having previously obtained a BA in History from the University of Guyana in 2005, graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree from the same university in 2009, attended Hugh Wooding Law School 2009-2011 and was called to the Guyana Bar in November 2011.

She then worked with the chambers of Hanoman, Jackson & Associates until joining the Clinic in November 2014.

Ms. Boyce, who has previous legal aid experience, having worked at the Hugh Wooding Legal Aid Clinic between October 2010 and April 2011, is based at the Georgetown office.

Ms. Boyce was appointed acting managing attorney in June 2017 following the resignation of Ms. Simone Morris-Ramlall and was appointed substantive managing attorney with effect from 1 July 2017.

Ms. Sasha Roberts, LLB, Attorney-at-Law

Ms. Roberts graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 2007 from the University of Guyana. She obtained her Legal Education Certificate from Hugh Wooding Law School and was called to the Guyana Bar in October 2009.

In the summer of 2008, Ms. Roberts did her internship at the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

Ms. Roberts is based at the Clinic’s New Amsterdam office and also provides services at the Fort Wellington office.

Ms. Shameka Taitt, LLB, Attorney-at-Law

Ms. Taitt obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Guyana in 2008 and after a period of teaching at a Georgetown secondary school, attended Hugh Wooding Law School 2012-2014 and was called to the Guyana Bar in November 2014.

Prior to joining the Clinic in February 2016, Ms. Taitt was Legal Officer at the Guyana Council on Public Policy.

Ms. Collette Marks, LLB, Attorney-at-Law

Ms. Marks obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Guyana in 2014, attended Hugh Wooding Law School 2014-2016 and was called to the Guyana Bar in October 2016.

Ms. Nikita Edwards, LLB, Attorney-at-Law

Ms. Edwards graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 2016 from the University of Guyana, obtained a Legal Education Certificate from Hugh Wooding Law School on 13 October 2018 (having completed her in-service training with the clinic in August 2017) and was admitted to the Guyana Bar on 16 October 2018. She is based at the Georgetown office.

Ms. Renée McDonald, LLB, Attorney-at-Law

Ms. McDonald joined the clinic on 3 January 2019 and is based at the Georgetown office.

She obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Guyana in 2010, attended Hugh Wooding Law School 2010-2012 and has been admitted to practise in both Guyana Bar and Trinidad and Tobago.

Ms. McDonald has had considerable previous legal aid experience in both countries, including most recently being the managing attorney at the Linden Legal Aid Centre.

Ms. Michelle Matthias, LLB, Attorney-at-Law

Ms. Matthias joined the clinic in June 2019 and is based at the Georgetown office.

She obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree with Credit from the University of Guyana in 2016 (having previously obtained a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree in Business Management with Credit in 2012, and a Diploma in Accountancy in 2004), attended Hugh Wooding Law School 2016-2018 and was admitted to practise at the Guyana Bar in October 2018.

Ms. Matthias has previous legal aid experience, having worked at at the Hugh Wooding Law School Legal Aid Clinic from October 2017 to May 2018.
